Our senior pastor, Tim McCann, grew up in Wilkes County and trusted Christ as his personal savior at Union Baptist Church, in Hamptonville, at the age of twenty. He attended East Wilkes High and later Carolina Bible College where he studied for the ministry. In November of 2000, he married his high school sweetheart, Jessica Layell and they settled in Roaring River, where they attended Cherry Grove Baptist Church and worked in the youth ministry.
From birth pastor McCann has been part of Cherry Grove. In 2000 he accepted Christ and then 3 months later he surrendered to the call to preach. For the next five years he served as youth pastor and in early 2005 he and his family went full time into missions with the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, where they served until 2010 and then he took his first church to pastor, Kimesville Road Baptist Church in Burlington, NC.
Through the prison ministry and pasturing Kimesville God taught them some of the greatest lessons in life. The church was split and had about 35 members and the Lord allowed them to see it grow by 100 members in his 8 years of pasturing there.
It was in June of 2018 that the deacons of Cherry Grove contacted him about coming as pastor. After much prayer, God led the McCann family back home to take over the work on the Mountain. Since they arrived, the church has seen many souls saved, men called to preach.
The excitement is building as we launch out into our building program in 2019, in order to reach more souls for Christ!
We give God all the Glory for what He has done and what He is going to Do.
